The influence of growth determinants on environmental quality in Sub-Saharan Africa states

Fortune Ganda

Summary: The study found that there is a complex causal relationship between economic growth, renewable energy consumption, industrial practice, and financial development in Sub-Saharan African countries, with these growth determinants still contributing to increasing levels of carbon emissions in practice.

Green growth and low carbon emission in G7 countries: How critical the network of environmental taxes, renewable energy and human capital is?

Lin-Na Hao et al.

Summary: Through theoretical and empirical analysis, this study finds that green growth can reduce CO2 emissions, while environmental taxes, human capital, and renewable energy use can also decrease CO2 emissions. GDP growth has a negative impact on environmental quality, but green growth helps sustain environmental quality.

Assessing the effectiveness of total foreign aid and foreign energy aid inflows on environmental quality in India

Mantu Kumar Mahalik et al.

Summary: The study found that in India, foreign aid inflows, globalization, and energy consumption significantly reduce CO2 emissions, while foreign energy aid inflows, economic growth, FDI, and remittances inflows induce an increase in emissions.

Moderating the effect of globalization on financial development, energy consumption, human capital, and carbon emissions: evidence from G20 countries

Muhammad Sheraz et al.

Summary: The study found that financial development and human capital decrease carbon emissions, while GDP and energy consumption increase carbon emissions. Globalization moderates the impact of financial development and human capital on carbon emissions, as well as the impact of energy consumption and GDP. This research provides insights for policymakers to formulate country-based policies for environmental protection and sustainable economic goals.

Virtual water and CO2 emission footprints embodied in power trade: EU-27

Like Wang et al.

Summary: The European Union has the most extensive regional power trade in the world and it is crucial for EU environmental energy policies. Understanding the nexus between water, power, and CO2 emissions is essential for sustainable management. A study on the virtual water and CO2 emissions in EU interregional power trade in 2017 reveals the largest exporters and importers in virtual water and CO2 emissions.

Impacts of human capital, exports, economic growth and energy consumption on CO2 emissions of a cross-sectionally dependent panel: Evidence from the newly industrialized countries (NICs)

Mohammad Mafizur Rahman et al.

Summary: This paper explores the impacts of economic growth, energy use, exports and human capital on the environmental quality of newly industrialised countries (NICs) over the period of 1979-2017. The study found in the long run, economic growth and human capital improved environmental quality, while energy consumption and exports deteriorated it. Energy consumption was found to have the highest impact on the environment.

Tracing CO2 emissions in China-US trade: A global value chain perspective

Feng Dai et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the CO2 emissions induced by China-US trade from 1996 to 2015 using the hypothetical extraction method. The results show that China's exports to the US mainly generate CO2 emissions in Asian, European, and African countries, while US exports to China mainly generate CO2 emissions in Asian, European, and North American countries. The environmental benefits of US-China exports are higher than those of China-US exports, but the gap is closing.

Financial development, openness, innovation, carbon emissions, and economic growth in China

Guangchen Li et al.

Summary: This study, based on balanced panel data of 30 Chinese provinces from 1987 to 2017, explores the impact of carbon emissions on economic growth through a panel smooth transition regression model. The empirical results reveal significant non-linear relationships between carbon emissions, financial development, openness, innovation, and economic growth. It also shows that carbon emissions attenuate the promoting effects of financial development and innovation on economic growth, with differences in impact between the northern and southern regions.

On the nonlinear relationship between energy use and CO2 emissions within an EKC framework: Evidence from panel smooth transition regression in the MENA region

Nidhaleddine Ben Cheikh et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new approach for analyzing the dynamic relationships between CO2 emissions, energy use, and income in the Middle East and North African region using a nonlinear panel smooth transition regression framework. The empirical findings show that pollutant emissions respond nonlinearly to energy consumption and GDP growth. The study reveals an inverted U-shaped pattern for the impact of energy on CO2 emissions and highlights that GDP growth significantly impacts carbon emissions only for higher energy consumption growth.
