Detection of aflatoxin B1 adducts in Mexican women with cervical lesions

L. Diaz de Leon-Martinez et al.

Summary: The study found a correlation between the presence of dietary aflatoxin B-1 (AFB-1) and the detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) in cervical samples from women in Mexico, with high concentrations of AFB-1 correlated with the detection of oncogenic HPV types 16 and 18. Additionally, a proposed hypothetical interaction between the adducts and the NRF2 pathway suggests that AFB-1 may inhibit the formation of autophagosomes, potentially leading to the presence or recurrence of cervical cancer.
