Development and comprehensive HS-SPME/GC-MS analysis optimization, comparison, and evaluation of different cabbage cultivars (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata L.) volatile components

Shouhui Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, seven parameters of headspace solid phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME) were comprehensively optimized for extracting volatile compounds from cabbage, resulting in the identification and quantification of 75 volatiles in 10 cabbage cultivars. The most abundant volatile was dimethyl ether, and pungent aroma was found to be the strongest, followed by green and fruity aromas. Purple cabbages generally had higher overall odor activity values compared to green cabbage, and the volatile profiles of different cabbage cultivars could be distinguished using radar fingerprint chart (RFC), hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA).

Multienzyme-Targeted Fluorescent Probe as a Biosensing Platform for Broad Detection of Pesticide Residues

Wu-Yingzheng Guo et al.

Summary: The study developed a strategy of multienzyme-targeted fluorescent probe design and obtained a novel fluorescent probe for detecting a wide variety of pesticides. The designed probe showed excellent sensitivity against organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides, with a detection limit of 1.14 pg/L for dichlorvos. It also allowed for the diffusion-resistant in situ visualization of pesticides in live cells and zebrafish, as well as the sensitive measurement of organophosphorus pesticides in fresh vegetables, demonstrating promising potential for tracking pesticide residues in environment and biological systems.

Combined effect of microplastics and DDT on microbial growth: A bacteriological and metabolomics investigation in Escherichia coli

Shuqin Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that polystyrene microplastics (PS MPs) can mitigate the negative impact of dichloro-diphenyl- trichloroethane (DDT) on the growth and metabolism of Escherichia coli to a certain extent. Analysis of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle related enzymes activities and antioxidant defense related substances revealed the mechanism behind the influence of PS on DDT.

A hollow visible-light-responsive surface molecularly imprinted polymer for the detection of chlorpyrifos in vegetables and fruits

Mei-jun Chen et al.

Summary: A visible-light-responsive azobenzene derivative was synthesized and used to fabricate a core-shell structured surface molecularly imprinted polymer, as well as a hollow structured surface molecularly imprinted polymer, for the detection of chlorpyrifos in fruit and vegetable samples. Both polymers exhibited good visible-light-responsive properties and the hollow structured polymer showed superior characteristics for chlorpyrifos detection.
