Greenland's offshore Greenland halibut fishery and role of the Marine Stewardship Council certification: A governance case study

Stephen Long et al.

Summary: The MSC certification is a leading eco-label in the seafood industry, but there are concerns about sustainability in deep-sea fisheries. This study found an effective governance system for deep-sea fisheries in Greenland, with support from scientific, certification, and industry actors. However, weaknesses in the certification process, such as inadequate assessments of benthic habitats and questioned independence of Conformity Assessment Bodies, were raised.
