Prenatal exposure to a wide range of environmental chemicals and child behaviour between 3 and 7 years of age - An exposome-based approach in 5 European cohorts

Paulina Jedynak et al.

Summary: This study found deleterious effects of prenatal exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) and mono-n-butyl phthalate (MnBP) on child behavior. Other associations should be interpreted cautiously as they were not consistent with previous studies or have not been extensively studied.

Early-life environmental exposure determinants of child behavior in Europe: A longitudinal, population-based study

Lea Maitre et al.

Summary: The HELIX project investigated the impact of various prenatal and postnatal environmental exposures on child behavior, finding that smoking and car traffic during pregnancy were associated with behavioral problems in children. In childhood, healthy lifestyle habits such as longer sleep duration, healthy diet, and higher family social capital were linked to reduced behavioral issues, while exposure to lead, copper, indoor air pollution, and unhealthy diet were associated with increased behavioral problems. Unexpectedly, decreases in behavioral scores were observed with exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organophosphate (OP) pesticides.
