Plant resilience and physiological modifications induced by curettage of Esca-diseased grapevines

Celine Cholet et al.

Summary: The study shows that grapevines affected by Esca disease, after undergoing curettage treatment, may recover lower vigour and fertility compared to healthy plants, but their grape berry quality is comparable to healthy plants. This cultural practice of curettage has been effective in helping Esca-symptomatic grapevines recover and compensate for the disease's impact on berry quality over time.

Sap Flow Disruption in Grapevine Is the Early Signal Predicting the Structural, Functional, and Genetic Responses to Esca Disease

Loris Ouadi et al.

Summary: This study found that fungal species causing Esca can lead to grapevine wood necrosis, disrupting the plant's physiological processes and eventually causing grapevine death. The study also showed that the impact of Esca on grapevines primarily affects leaf symptoms and genetic plant responses. Sap flow dynamics were identified as a useful tool in predicting plant disorders due to Esca.
