Advanced forecasting and disturbance modelling for model predictive control of smart energy systems

Summary: This study introduces a method for embedding advanced weather disturbance models in model predictive control for energy consumption and climate management in buildings, which can provide useful short-term disturbance forecasts to improve indoor temperature control performance. Simulation-based studies show significant improvements in electricity savings (5%-10%) and reduction of comfort violations (up to over 90%) using short-term forecasts generated by the advanced disturbance model.
