Investigation of the kinetics of spontaneous combustion of the major coal seam in Dahuangshan mining area of the Southern Junggar coalfield, Xinjiang, China

Li Shen et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors analyzed the oxidation reaction and spontaneous combustion characteristics of samples from the major coal seam in the Dahuangshan Mining area using diverse methods such as SEM, XRD, TPO, FTIR, and TGA. The results showed that high temperature, high porosity, fissures, and hierarchical structures in coal samples facilitated oxidation reactions and spontaneous combustion, while a higher degree of graphitization and aromatic microcrystalline structures promoted spontaneous combustion.

Dissect the capacity of low-temperature oxidation of coal with different metamorphic degrees

Jiawen Cai et al.

Summary: Radical chemistry is a major factor in the low-temperature oxidation of coal, with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy being a powerful tool to study the behavior of radicals. The study found that low-rank coal has a more prominent oxidizability compared to other types of coal, and a novel approach using the relative growth rate R of radicals was developed to quantify the oxidizability of coal. These results are consistent with the tendency of coal spontaneous combustion.

Comparative analysis of microstructure evolution and oxidation performance of acid-treated lignite

Yongyu Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid treatment on the oxidation performance and microstructure of coal. Results showed that acid treatment improved the pore volume and oxygen adsorption capacity of coal, accelerating oxidation reaction at low temperatures but inhibiting it at high temperatures. Nitric acid treatment, in contrast, promoted coal oxidation due to pre-oxidation effect and decreased coal molecular stability.

The effects of particle size on flameless combustion characteristics and NOx emissions of semi-coke with coal

Hongliang Ding et al.

Summary: The experiments showed that the particle size of Shenmu semi-coke significantly affected the composition yield, coal char activity, combustion process, and NOx emissions of high-temperature coal gas. Specifically, a particle size of 163.84 μm led to the highest combustion efficiency of 98.23% with flameless combustion achieved. Additionally, a critical value of 198.54 μm for Shenmu semi-coke particles was identified, affecting NOx emissions.
