Comparison of Pyrolysis Liquids from Continuous and Batch Biochar Production-Influence of Feedstock Evidenced by FTICR MS

Wolfram Buss et al.

Summary: The composition of bio-oils produced from different biomass feedstocks and pyrolysis units were compared using FTICR MS. The design of the pyrolysis unit had minimal influence on the composition of bio-oils produced from low-mineral containing wood biomass. Wheat straw-derived bio-oil from the continuous unit had lower molecular weight compounds and fewer oxygen-containing functional groups due to longer residence time and higher mineral content, favoring further bio-oil decomposition.
