Effect of optimized pore structure on sealing performance of drilling sealing materials in coal mine

Dong Kai et al.

Summary: By optimizing the pore structure of drilling sealing materials using SiO2, sodium silicate, and styrene-acrylic emulsion, a synergistic effect between styrene-acrylic emulsion and SiO2 was found to be more effective than using either substance alone. This optimization resulted in a decrease in porosity and an increase in peak stress of the material.

Research of wetting selectivity and wetting effect of imidazole ionic liquids on coal

Ni Guanhua et al.

Summary: The study found that different concentrations of ionic liquids have varying wetting effects on coal, requiring synergy between the ionic liquid and its components to achieve optimal results. Additionally, the composition and surface morphology of coal samples also affect the wetting effect.

Digital and experimental rock analysis of proppant injection into naturally fractured coal

Hamed Lamei Ramandi et al.

Summary: Proppant-laden fluid injection in naturally fractured coal samples did not significantly increase permeability due to proppant accumulation at the inlet creating a filter. Digital computation revealed a notable increase in permeability when accumulated proppants were excluded, indicating the importance of proppant size selection for effective hydraulic fracturing in coal seams.

Changbao Jiang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the mechanical properties and seepage characteristics of raw coal samples in the process of coalbed methane extraction, proposed the change rate of information entropy as a damage characterization parameter, and developed a permeability evolution model under loading and unloading conditions.

Microstructure characteristics of lignite under the synergistic effect of oxidizing acid and ionic liquid [Bmim][Cl]

Li Shang et al.

Summary: This study modified the microstructure of coal through the synergistic effect of oxidizing acid and ionic liquid, revealing that the synergistic treatment makes the molecular structure of coal more unstable, increases the aromaticity, makes the microstructure more compact, and tends to graphitization.

Determining the transverse surface relaxivity of reservoir rocks: A critical review and perspective

Xinmin Ge et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in characterizing the pore structure of reservoir rocks using the low field nuclear magnetic resonance technique. The review and analysis recommend a composited experiment to measure the surface relaxivity and propose a possible workflow to obtain the variable surface relaxivity. It is important to use multi scale experiments to characterize the full-scale pore space and consider using multiple surface relaxivities for heterogeneous reservoir rocks.

Experimental investigation on the permeability and damage characteristics of raw coal under tiered cyclic unloading and loading confining pressure

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study conducted a seepage experiment under constant axial stress and tiered cyclic unloading-loading confining pressure, proposing two new damage variables. The results showed that plastic deformations and permeability of coal increased with unloading levels, with a reverse trend when unloading level was large. The experiment also revealed the coexistence of Kaiser effect and Felicity effect, and the relationship between dissipated energy and cycle number shifted from logarithm to linear as unloading levels increased.

Visualized study on the mechanism of temperature effect on coal during liquid nitrogen cold shock

Yuzhou Cong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of temperature effect on coal during cold shock caused by anhydrous low-temperature liquid nitrogen. The research found that the temperature and strain distributions of coal around the drill hole are uneven during cold shock, with obvious temperature gradient and strain-concentrated area. By establishing a hierarchical thermal stress calculation model, the variations of radial thermal stress based on temperature difference and strain were analyzed after 30 minutes of cold shock.

Changes of Coal Molecular and Pore Structure under Ultrasonic Stimulation

Yong Sun et al.

Summary: The ultrasonic stimulation method can help coal form more cracks, improving gas desorption and flow. By studying the changes in temperature, molecular structure, and pore structure under ultrasonic treatment, it is found that ultrasonic stimulation can reduce methane adsorption capacity, increase porosity, and enhance effective porosity and free fluid proportion.
