Ecological network analysis of carbon emissions from four Chinese metropoles in multiscale economies

Hongmei Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the carbon emissions of four Chinese metropoles at different scales using ecological network analysis and input-output analysis. The results provided insights into the complex carbon flow relationships between cities and regions, aiming to assist policy makers in setting emission reduction targets and actions.

Impacts of local public expenditure on CO2 emissions in Chinese cities: A spatial cluster decomposition analysis

Shulei Cheng et al.

Summary: By analyzing data from 279 cities in China, it was found that cities with similar socio-economic conditions exhibit emission differences, mainly influenced by the carbon intensity of local public expenditure and other public expenditures. Insights gained can provide feasible implications for Chinese cities in terms of CO2 emissions reduction policies.

Water-energy nexus within urban agglomeration: An assessment framework combining the multiregional input-output model, virtual water, and embodied energy

Ziwen Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed a new assessment framework for the water-energy nexus at the urban agglomeration scale, which can be used to identify key regions and sectors for water and energy saving. The framework considers the efficiency of input resources and connections of interregional industrial sectors, providing valuable insights for sustainable development goals.

Understanding the impacts of climate change and socio-economic development through food-energy-water nexus: A case study of mekong river delta

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the combined impacts of climate change and socio-economic development on the Food, Energy, and Water (FEW) Nexus through an integrated management model in the Mekong River Delta. Results showed that rice yields are vulnerable to extreme climate events, power generation increases sharply with socio-economic development, and water resource usage is also on the rise. The analysis highlighted the central role of water in connecting the food and energy sectors, and identified the energy and water sectors as more vulnerable to combined impacts compared to the food sector due to planned coal-fired power plants in the MRD.
