Electroosmotic flow: From microfluidics to nanofluidics

Amer Alizadeh et al.

Summary: Electroosmotic flow, a significant phenomenon in electrokinetic transport at the micro/nanoscale, has been widely adopted for fluid pumping applications due to its ability to efficiently pump liquids without mechanical parts. Understanding the role of the ionically polarized layer and the characteristic length scale of the conducting media is crucial in comprehending the electrokinetic pumping mechanism.

Engineering adjustable two-pore devices for parallel ion transport and DNA translocations

Yung-Chien Chou et al.

Summary: This study reports measurements of ionic current and dsDNA translocation through two similar 3-nm diameter silicon nitride nanopores in parallel, with varying thicknesses engineered using electron beam lithography. The total conductance of the two pores was shown to be the sum of the individual pore conductances, and the translocation of dsDNA through each pore was distinguished effectively. This work demonstrates the potential of two-pore devices to open up a parallel translocation reading system for solid-state nanopores, with the possibility to generalize to more pores with desired parameters given a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio.
