Enhanced peroxymonosulfate activation process based on homogenously dispersed iron and nitrogen active sites on a three-dimensional porous carbon framework

Likun Chen et al.

Summary: Developing novel transition metal/nitrogen/carbon catalysts with maximized dispersion of active sites presents a promising prospect for environmental remediation. The study successfully designed a three-dimensional porous carbon aerogel supported iron and nitrogen co-doped carbon catalyst via a unique double fixed-protection strategy, which showed excellent efficiency in rapidly removing 4-chlorophenol with almost 100% removal efficiency and 66.8% mineralization rate. The evenly dispersed iron active sites were found essential in accelerating the catalytic reaction, highlighting the potential of such catalysts in practical wastewater treatment.

ZIF-8 derived Fe-N coordination moieties anchored carbon nanocubes for efficient peroxymonosulfate activation via non-radical pathways: Role of FeNx sites

Jingjing He et al.

Summary: This work developed novel carbon nanocubes (xFe-N-C) with abundant FeNx sites, showing excellent activity for phenol degradation by activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The catalytic system exhibited good recycling performance, wide pH adaptation, and high resistance to environmental interference, with singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) dominating the phenol degradation process. The introduction of FeNx sites regulated the electronic structure of the catalysts, enhancing the catalytic activity through the generation of highly reactive O-1(2) for rapid phenol oxidation.

Carbonized polyaniline activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for phenol degradation: Role of PMS adsorption and singlet oxygen generation

Shiqi Liu et al.

Summary: This study prepared high-efficient N-doped carbon materials by directly carbonizing polyaniline, which exhibited excellent catalytic performance in activating PMS for phenol degradation. In the CPANI-9/PMS system, PMS adsorption/activation was identified as the key step determining the reaction rate. The presence of different N species and functional groups on the carbon materials were found to be catalytic sites for the degradation reactions.

Products distribution and contribution of (de)chlorination, hydroxylation and coupling reactions to 2,4-dichlorophenol removal in seven oxidation systems

Xiaoxue Pan et al.

Summary: The transformation behavior of 2,4-dichlorophenol (24-DCP) was studied in seven different reaction systems, showing that complete removal of 24-DCP can be achieved in minutes in Fe(VI), KMnO4, NaClO, Fenton, and O-3 systems. LC-MS analysis identified 41 products, primarily hydroxyl substitution and coupling reactions. High chlorination was observed in the NaClO system, while coupling products accounted for about 45% of the removed 24-DCP under PS oxidation.
