Lip balm drying promotes virus attachment: Characterization of lip balm coatings and XDLVO modeling

Xunhao Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that drying of lip balms increases surface hydrophobicity, leading to enhanced virus adhesion. Through experiments and calculations, it is found that hydrophilic colloids may attach to lip balm surfaces under conditions of saliva ionic strength.

Aggregation and transport behavior of goethite colloids as affected by dissolved organic matter and pH: Electrostatic vs. hydrophilic interactions

J. F. Carstens et al.

Summary: This study found that electrostatic attraction rather than hydrophilic repulsion controlled the aggregation and transport behavior of soil mineral colloids. The irregular shape and surface roughness of the colloids rendered the short-range hydrophilic repulsion ineffective, allowing the more long-range electrostatic interactions to predominate.

Modelling the critical roles of zeta potential and contact angle on colloidal fouling with a coupled XDLVO - collision attachment approach

Junxia Liu et al.

Summary: The model predicts that severe fouling occurs at low ζ(2) values, and increasing ζ(2) can significantly reduce the membrane fouling rate. The role of contact angle θ is critical, as fouling is dramatically reduced when θ is below (or above) a certain threshold value.
