Sustainability appraisal of desired contaminated groundwater remediation strategies: an information-entropy-based stochastic multi-criteria preference model

Li He et al.

Summary: This study introduces an information-entropy-based stochastic multi-criteria preference model (SMCPM) for assessing the sustainability of groundwater remediation strategies. By selecting, evaluating, computing weights, and establishing a random evaluation matrix, the model identifies the most desirable remedial actions for different time frames, providing a more acceptable and reasonable approach compared to traditional models by addressing various uncertainties.

Summary: In this paper, the knapsack problem is transformed into the TV-ILP problem, presenting an online solution to the RTVKP combinatorial optimization problem and emphasizing the limitations of static methods. The RTVKP is also utilized in finance and tested with real-world data sets to demonstrate it as an excellent alternative to traditional approaches.

Flood risk assessment using hybrid artificial intelligence models integrated with multi-criteria decision analysis in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam

Binh Thai Pham et al.

Summary: This study proposed a flood risk assessment framework combining flood susceptibility assessment and flood consequences using Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) method. Two hybrid AI models, ABMDT and BDT, were developed with Decision Table (DT) as a base classifier to create a flood susceptibility map. The BDT model performed the best with an AUC of 0.96, and the proposed framework and models can be applied to other flood-prone areas for better flood hazard management.

Runge-Kutta pairs suited for SIR-type epidemic models

Vladislav N. Kovalnogov et al.

Summary: Modeling infectious diseases involves systems of ordinary differential equations, with compartments representing susceptible, infectious, or immunized individuals changing over time. Specialized quadratic ODEs in these models can be solved using a new RK pair tuned for this purpose, demonstrating superiority over standard RK pairs in analyzing COVID-19 spread and other epidemic models.

Mapping groundwater recharge in Africa from ground observations and implications for water security

Alan M. MacDonald et al.

Summary: Groundwater recharge rates in Africa were quantified for the period 1970-2019, revealing measurable recharge in most environments but lower rates in arid and semi-arid regions. The study found that only LTA rainfall is significantly related to LTA recharge at the continental scale, while other factors are important at local scales. The dataset provides valuable information for assessing groundwater development potential and water security in Africa.
