Learning features from georeferenced seafloor imagery with location guided autoencoders

Takaki Yamada et al.

Summary: This study introduces an unsupervised feature learning method for georeferenced seafloor visual imagery, which improves information retrieval rates by two times in seafloor mapping applications. The location based loss function and image rescaling method are found to be beneficial in recognizing artificial objects and improving spatial consistency, respectively.
