Maternal but not fetoplacental health can be improved by metformin in a murine diet-induced model of maternal obesity and glucose intolerance

Antonia Hufnagel et al.

Summary: Maternal obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus pose risks for both mother and child. While metformin can improve maternal metabolic health, its effects on fetus and placenta remain unclear. In a mouse model of obesity and glucose intolerance during pregnancy, metformin improved maternal health but did not fully reverse the negative impact on fetal growth and placental structure.

Maternal Exercise Mediates Hepatic Metabolic Programming via Activation of AMPK-PGC1α Axis in the Offspring of Obese Mothers

Philipp Kasper et al.

Summary: Maternal exercise can reduce the risk of hepatic metabolic dysfunction in obese dams and their offspring, by regulating AMPK and other key hepatic metabolic processes, leading to improved metabolic health.
