Noncoding RNAs in Medicinal Plants and their Regulatory Roles in Bioactive Compound Production

Caili Li et al.

Summary: This review highlights the regulatory roles of herbal ncRNAs in bioactive compound production. Thousands of miRNA candidates and hundreds of lncRNAs have been identified, with some miRNAs and lncRNAs predicted to regulate the production of bioactive compounds. Further functional analysis of herbal ncRNAs will contribute to the improvement of medicinal plants in terms of quality and quantity.

The Research Progress of Taxol in Taxus

Fenjuan Shao et al.

Summary: Taxol production in Taxus is influenced by a variety of factors including species, age, tissues, light, moisture levels, temperature, soil fertility, and microbes. Research focuses on finding ways to increase taxol production and has explored various methods such as understanding the biosynthesis pathway, in vitro production, and the application of multi-omits approaches. Future efforts should concentrate on identifying unknown enzymes, establishing genetic transformation systems, and understanding regulatory mechanisms to enhance taxol yield.

Recent Progress in Saikosaponin Biosynthesis in Bupleurum

Chun Sui et al.

Summary: Chaihu is a popular traditional Chinese medicine, with saikosaponins being one of its main active components. Recent research has identified key enzyme genes involved in SS biosynthesis, showing that biosynthesis is influenced by environmental factors and plant genus. Transcriptional regulation plays an important role in controlling SS biosynthesis.
