Grain weight and the concentrations of phenylpropanoid glycosides and γ-oryzanol in response to heat stress during ripening in rice

Hiroshi Nakano et al.

Summary: This study revealed that the concentrations of specific compounds are strongly correlated with grain weight reduction caused by heat stress in rice cultivars Koshihikari and Takanari. Interestingly, the relationships between grain weight and the concentrations of certain compounds appeared to be stronger in Koshihikari than in Takanari. These findings suggest that the identified compounds could be powerful tools for improving the heat tolerance of japonica rice cultivars.

Grain yield response to stubble leaf blade clipping in rice ratooning in southwestern Japan

Hiroshi Nakano et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the leaf area index in stubble can improve the grain yield of the second crop in rice ratooning, by increasing the spikelet number per area. Additionally, the nonstructural carbohydrate content in rice stubble and the contribution of stubble leaf blades to yield are influenced by rice varieties.
