Can We Use Functional Annotation of Prokaryotic Taxa (FAPROTAX) to Assign the Ecological Functions of Soil Bacteria?

Chakriya Sansupa et al.

Summary: This study assessed the application of FAPROTAX in soil environments and found that over 97% of the FAPROTAX assigned OTUs may potentially perform functions in agricultural and forest soils. The study suggests that FAPROTAX can be used for a fast-functional screening of bacterial data from terrestrial ecosystems and improving taxonomic and functional reference databases can enhance its performance.

Dynamic bacterial community response to Akashiwo sanguinea (Dinophyceae) bloom in indoor marine microcosms

Seung Won Jung et al.

Summary: The study revealed different bacterial groups within the Akashiwo sanguinea bloom with dynamic changes in response to environmental impacts. The functional groups of the bacterial community shifted from chemoheterotrophy to nitrogen association metabolism during the bloom, reflecting the changes in nutrient concentrations in the environment.

Zooming on dynamics of marine microbial communities in the phycosphere of Akashiwo sanguinea (Dinophyta) blooms

Junsu Kang et al.

Summary: This study used metagenomics to investigate the interactions between microbial communities and environmental factors during harmful algal blooms (HABs) caused by Akashiwo sanguinea in the Jangmok coastal waters of South Korea. Specific bacterial species had complex relationships with the A. sanguinea bloom, while certain viruses were strongly and positively correlated with the HABs. The dynamics of microbial communities and environmental factors changed during the A. sanguinea bloom, with rapid turnover of microorganisms responding to ecological interactions.
