Comparative Assessment of Asphalt Volatile Organic Compounds Emission from field to laboratory

Na Li et al.

Summary: This study compares the VOCs emission assessment between actual construction sites and laboratory simulations, finding that the composition and content of VOCs in asphalt have significant dependence on heating temperature. Experimental simulations in the laboratory can effectively signal the amount and composition of VOCs released in practical construction sites.

Repurposing waste plastics into cleaner asphalt pavement materials: A critical literature review

Shenghua Wu et al.

Summary: The current practice of recycling waste plastics into cleaner asphalt pavement materials involves 7 major types of plastics. Determining the optimum dosage of waste plastics is crucial for improving the performance parameters of asphalt mixes. Additional research is needed to fully understand the effects of various plastics on the performance of the pavement and potential environmental and economic impacts.

Characteristics, sources and health risks assessment of VOCs in Zhengzhou, China during haze pollution season

Dong Zhang et al.

Summary: Zhengzhou, one of the most haze-polluted cities in Central China, has high organic carbon emission which contributes to 15%-20% of particulate matter (PM2.5) in winter, leading to significant adverse health effects. VOCs, the precursors of secondary PM2.5 and O-3 formation, were investigated in the urban area of Zhengzhou in December 2019. The main sources of VOCs in the air were identified as vehicular exhaust, industrial processes, combustion, fuel evaporation, and solvent use. The risks of both carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic effects of VOCs increased during haze days, with industrial emission being a major contributor to non-carcinogenic risks and solvent use being a major contributor to carcinogenic risks.

Grafting waste rubber powder and its application in asphalt

XiaoPing Wang et al.

Summary: By modifying rubber powder, the overall performance of rubber asphalt was significantly improved, including enhanced low-temperature resistance to cracking and stability. The modified rubber powder exhibited better dispersion in asphalt and increased interfacial interaction with the asphalt matrix, leading to the enhanced performance of the composite material.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the Mukundpura (CM2) Chondrite

M. S. Kalpana et al.

Summary: Soluble polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were found in high yields in Mukundpura (MK) CM2 carbonaceous chondrite, including 2, 3, and 4 ring PAHs, as well as heterocyclic nitrogen and sulfur-containing compounds. The presence of significant alkylation products and the distribution of PAHs in MK were discussed in relation to its petrographic grade and aqueous alteration.
