Application of the discrete element method and CT scanning to investigate the compaction characteristics of the soil-rock mixture in the subgrade

Xiaoping Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, a predictive method for the maximum dry density of soil-rock mixtures (SRM) was developed using numerical simulation and laboratory testing. Factors influencing the dry density of SRM were also investigated. The results showed that the proposed method has high predictive accuracy and can address the issue of determining the dry density of SRM in a laboratory.

Investigation of the adhesive and cohesive properties of asphalt, mastic, and mortar in porous asphalt mixtures

Xiaowei Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the cohesive strength of asphalt, mastic, and mortar increases with the increase in dynamic viscosity of asphalt. As temperature increases, the failure type of asphalt changes from adhesive to cohesive failure, while the failure types of mastic and mortar change from cohesive to adhesive failure. Under wet conditions, adhesive failure was observed in asphalt, and the failure types of mastic and mortar changed from cohesive to adhesive failure with increasing moisture damage.

Modified Waterborne Epoxy as a Cold Pavement Binder: Preparation and Long-Term Working Properties

Qian Chen et al.

Summary: The working properties of waterborne epoxy resin can be improved through polyurethane modification, particularly in terms of tensile, bending, and bonding properties. Toluene diisocyanate-polybutylene adipate is a suitable type of polyurethane, with an optimal content of 15%-20%. As the hydrothermal aging time increases, the strength of waterborne epoxy resin increases while flexibility and bonding properties decrease. The property stability of waterborne epoxy resin is enhanced after polyurethane modification, with a significant increase in the retention rate of bonding property.
