Molecular simulation of CH4and CO2adsorption in shale organic nanopores

Wenning Zhou et al.

Summary: Using CO(2) as an alternative working fluid to displace shale gas is a promising technology for enhancing shale gas recovery and geologically sequestering CO(2) in shale reservoirs. This study investigated the adsorption behaviors of CH(4) and CO2/CH(4) mixture in shale kerogen nanopores and found that the adsorption capacities of CH(4) increased with pressure but were negatively affected by temperature. The competitive adsorption performances of CO2/CH(4) mixture were also discussed, revealing significantly higher adsorption capacities of CO(2) compared to CH(4) at various pressure and temperature conditions.
