Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of in-situ Ti6Al4V-TiB composites manufactured by selective laser melting

Zhiguang Zhou et al.

Summary: In situ TiB reinforced titanium matrix composites were fabricated via selective laser melting, with optimized processing to achieve crack-free and fully dense composites. The distribution of TiB reinforcement in the composites was mainly in the form of whisker clusters, showing different distributions in TMC1 and TMC2. The improvement in mechanical properties of the composites was attributed to Hall-Petch strengthening and load-bearing transformation strengthening.

Improved mechanical, bio-corrosion properties and in vitro cell responses of Ti-Fe alloys as candidate dental implants

Jingzhe Niu et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of iron in Ti-Fe binary alloys can significantly refine grain size, increase mechanical strength, improve corrosion resistance, and maintain a certain level of ductility. All Ti-Fe alloys exhibit similar biocompatibility and in-vitro response to pure titanium, with Ti-2Fe alloy showing the best performance and promising potential for future dental implant applications.
