Characterization and modeling of tensile properties of continuous fiber reinforced C/C-SiC composite at high temperatures

Yuan Shi et al.

Summary: The effects of temperature on the mechanical properties of Liquid Silicon Infiltration based continuous carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide were studied. Tensile properties were determined at high temperatures, showing almost no permanent strain compared to room temperature tests. Different fracture mechanisms were confirmed by analyzing the fracture surface, and a modeling approach for predicting material behavior at high temperature was developed with good agreement between test and modeling results.
