Exponential dispersion models for overdispersed zero-inflated count data

Shaul K. Bar-Lev et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the application of two classes of exponential dispersion models in fitting count data with overdispersed and zero-inflated statistics. The findings show that these models perform exceptionally well in a wide range of cases, particularly when the data exhibit significant skewness and kurtosis.

NEW EXPONENTIAL DISPERSION MODELS FOR COUNT DATA: THE ABM AND LM CLASSES

Shaul K. Bar-Lev et al.

Summary: The paper presents a systematic study of natural exponential families on the real line, characterizing them through their variance functions and mean value parameterization. It introduces two new classes of EDMs based on these results, showing that they have desirable properties and are overdispersed and zero inflated. These classes are shown to be competitive statistical models for both statistical and actuarial modeling, with a numerical example provided for comparison.
