Effects of Surfactant Charge and Molecular Structure on Wettability Alteration of Calcite: Insights from Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Jan Kubelka et al.

Summary: The study using MD simulations demonstrates that only cationic surfactants are able to more efficiently alter the wettability of oil-wet calcite, while neutral and anionic surfactants seem to have no measurable effect. The data also suggest that single-tailed cationic surfactants outperform the two-tailed structure in wettability alteration.

The Role of Chain Length in Cucurbit[8]uril Complexation of Methyl Alkyl Viologens

Alessandro Pedrini et al.

Summary: The study shows that as the alkyl chain length increases from 12 carbon atoms to 16 carbon atoms, the binding mode of viologens with cucurbit[8]uril in water switches from a 1:1 to 2:1 host/guest stoichiometry. This is due to the folding of the major portion of the longer alkyl chain in one CB[8] cavity and the inclusion of the full viologen unit by another host molecule.

Utilization of polyepoxysuccinic acid as the green selective depressant for the clean flotation of phosphate ores

Liuyang Dong et al.

Summary: The study developed a nitrogen and phosphorus-free environmentally friendly and economical flotation reagent - polyepoxysuccinic acid, for the selective inhibition of calcite during apatite flotation. The results showed that the reagent can achieve the flotation separation of apatite and calcite, obtaining good flotation performance in bench-scale experiments.

Unusual Maximum in the Adsorption of Aqueous Surfactant Mixtures: Neutron Reflectometry of Mixtures of Zwitterionic and Ionic Surfactants at the Silica-Aqueous Interface

Kun Ma et al.

Summary: The adsorption behavior of two zwitterionic surfactants and their mixtures at the silica-water interface has been studied, revealing strong and cooperative adsorption of C12CB and SDS at fractional SDS compositions up to about 0.5, while the cooperativity is lost when the adsorbed fraction of SDS rises above 0.5.
