Molecular Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 beyond Two Electrons

Etienne Boutin et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in CO2 molecular electrochemical reduction have led to the development of high performance catalysts mainly producing carbon monoxide (CO) and formic acid (HCOOH). While studies on highly reduced products remain limited, the field is rapidly emerging with potential for controlling catalytic reactions. The research discusses examples and proposes a unified reactivity scheme, addressing the formation of different products and providing insights for interpreting existing and upcoming reports.

Selective photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CO mediated by a [FeFe]-hydrogenase model with a 1,2-phenylene S-to-S bridge

Minglun Cheng et al.

Summary: The [FeFe]-hydrogenase model with a rigid and conjugate S-to-S bridge was found to be catalytically active for the selective photochemical reduction of CO2 to CO, with the catalytic selectivity being adjustable by adding triethanolamine. The study proposed a plausible mechanism for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CO and highlighted the importance of electron transfer in the system.
