Silica gel based new adsorbent having enhanced VOC dynamic adsorption/desorption performance

Sinan Kutluay et al.

Summary: The DACTS adsorbent, synthesized by tethering calix[4]arene carboxylic acid derivatives onto GBS, exhibited excellent adsorption performance and repeatability towards xylene and toluene gases, significantly enhancing the adsorption capacity compared to the precursor calixarene and GBS. The possible adsorption mechanism involves π-π and van der Waals interactions between the VOCs and the benzene rings on the calixarene moiety, indicating its potential usefulness in various applications.

Air oxidation coupling NH3 treatment of biomass derived hierarchical porous biochar for enhanced toluene removal

Bangda Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical porous biochar prepared from poplar sawdust by air oxidation coupling with NH3 treatment showed significantly enhanced mesopore and micropore volumes, improved basic surface chemistry, and increased adsorption capacity for toluene. The results indicated that the adsorption process of toluene was monolayered, and the maximum adsorption capacity of PS-O-2-NH3 for toluene could reach as high as 476.2 mg/g. The combination of air oxidation and NH3 treatment is a highly effective method for enhancing toluene adsorption performance of biochar.

3D graphene-like zeolite-templated carbon with hierarchical structures as a high-performance adsorbent for volatile organic compounds

Nam Sun Kim et al.

Summary: The study compared the dynamic adsorption of benzene on different carbon materials and found that hierarchical mesoporous/microporous beta zeolite-templated carbon (HBTC) had higher adsorption capacity and breakthrough time for benzene compared to commercial activated carbon (AC) and solely microporous beta zeolite-templated carbon (BTC). Introducing mesoporosity into microporous BTC to form a hierarchically mesoporous/microporous structure solved the diffusion problem and improved benzene adsorption performance. The HBTC showed promising potential for volatile organic compound (VOC) adsorption with higher adsorption capacity and better performance at 10% breakthrough compared to other tested carbons.
