Crystal and electronic structure of poly-halogenated lanthanide Schiff base complex: Insights into halogen bond from structural and theoretical analysis

Summary: The influence of halogen bonds on the supramolecular networks of lanthanide Schiff base complexes was explored in this study. It was found that substituional halogen atoms play an important role in tuning molecule structure and supramolecular networks, with different substituents on bromine atoms presenting distinct molecular electrostatic surface potential. Fluorescence experiments confirmed that halogenated ligands have a significant impact on the fluorescence behavior of the complex.

Summary: Over the past 50 years, intermediate valence states in lanthanide compounds have often led to unexpected or puzzling spectroscopic and magnetic properties. New theoretical models involving multiconfigurational electronic ground states have helped to rationalize these experimental singularities. Understanding and adjusting the ground-state multiconfigurational behavior in lanthanide complexes may lead to new avenues for modular and unusual reactivities.

Coordination sphere hydrogen bonding as a structural element in metal-organic Frameworks

Summary: The design of new metal-organic frameworks faces challenges of stability and predictability, but a subset of known MOF ligands with coordination sphere hydrogen bonding functionality offer new opportunities for design. These interactions can enhance the coordination geometry and stability of mononuclear coordination spheres, providing additional thermodynamic and kinetic stabilization to address hydrolytic stability challenges.
