Post-Synthesis Modification of Photoluminescent and Electrochemiluminescent Au Nanoclusters with Dopamine

Jae Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: The study introduces a post-synthesis functionalization method for the shell of Au nanoclusters synthesized using glutathione, which can tailor the photoluminescence and electrochemiluminescence features of the nanoclusters. Functionalization of the cluster shell enhances the PL intensity through rigidification, but does not enhance the NIR ECL of the NCs.

Atomically Precise Gold Nanoclusters as Model Catalysts for Identifying Active Sites for Electroreduction of CO2

Hoeun Seong et al.

Summary: This study successfully identified active sites using gold nanoclusters as model catalysts in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction. The research showed that dethiolated Au sites are the active sites, and the CO2RR activity is determined by the number of active sites on the cluster surface.

High-Efficient Electrochemiluminescence of Au Nanoclusters Induced by the Electrosensitizer Cu2O: The Mechanism Insights from the Electrogenerated Process

Xiaochun Zhu et al.

Summary: The novel Au nanoclusters/Cu2O heterostructure exhibited exceptionally strong electrochemiluminescence with fast charge transfer kinetics, providing a promising platform for efficient ECL-based biosensing and high-definition ECL imaging. The use of Cu2O as electrosensitizer in the heterostructure significantly improved ECL efficiency compared to traditional Au nanoclusters, overcoming a main challenge in metal nanoclusters-based ECL. Overall, Au NCs/Cu2O shows great potential for guiding the rational design of efficient electrochemiluminophores.

Hydrogen Evolution Electrocatalyst Design: Turning Inert Gold into Active Catalyst by Atomically Precise Nanochemistry

Yingwei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a thiolate (SR)-protected Au-36 Ag-2 (SR)(18) nanocluster with low ligand coverage and a core composed of three icosahedral (I-h) units is reported for efficient catalyzing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The Au-36 Ag-2 (SR)(18) exhibits high catalytic activity at lower overpotentials due to its low ligand-to-metal ratio, low-coordinated Au atoms and unfilled superatomic orbitals. This study provides a new strategy for constructing highly active catalysts from inert metals by pursuing atomically precise nanoclusters and controlling their geometrical and electronic structures.
