Synergy Between Ceria and Metals (Ag or Cu) in Catalytic Diesel Particulate Filters: Effect of the Metal Content and of the Preparation Method on the Regeneration Performance

Valeria Di Sarli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic performance of metal-promoted CeO2 washcoated silicon carbide diesel particulate filters in soot oxidation. The amount and preparation method of the metal (Ag or Cu) were found to significantly influence the catalytic activity, with Ag-promoted catalysts prepared using method B showing the highest activity. The results suggest that the method of preparation plays a crucial role in enhancing the catalytic performance of the filters.

A Numerical Investigation of the Combined Effects of Initial Temperature and Catalyst Activity on the Dynamics of Soot Combustion in a Catalytic Diesel Particulate Filter

Gianluca Landi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the combined effects of initial temperature and catalyst activity on the regeneration dynamics of a catalytic diesel particulate filter (DPF) using CFD-based simulations. Results show different regeneration behaviors based on catalyst activity, with faster regeneration at high activity and a trade-off between time and peak temperature at intermediate activity. Optimal regeneration conditions involve setting the filter's initial temperature equal to the inlet gas temperature.

Identification of engine oil-derived ash nanoparticles and ash formation process for a gasoline direct-injection engine

Heeje Seong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation process of engine oil-derived ash particles during combustion process in internal combustion engines. By dosing different formulated engine oils into a gasoline direct injection engine, researchers are able to identify standalone ash particles separated from soot aggregates. The results show that regardless of particle size and oil formulation, ash particles always contain elements such as Ca, P, and C, with Zn occasionally found in relatively large particles, indicating early stage accumulation of these elements.
