Effect of spatial distribution of polymer fibers on preventing spalling of UHPC at high temperatures

Dong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study explored the impact of fiber distribution on the permeability and spalling resistance of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), proposing an analytical model for permeability at 150 degrees C. It was found that interconnecting fiber network percolation significantly increased UHPC permeability. Furthermore, a semi-empirical approach recommended specific fiber aspect ratios and dosages for spalling prevention.

Sequestration and release of nitrite and nitrate in alkali-activated slag: A route toward smart corrosion control

Zhijian Chen et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential of autogenously generating nitrite- and nitrate-intercalated hydrotalcite in alkali-activated slag to improve corrosion protection of steel in reinforced concrete. The results show that the added nitrite and nitrate ions are preferably uptaken in the interlayer structure of hydrotalcite in AAS, with little detrimental effects on chloride binding capacity but slight enhancement on chloride ingress.
