Pozzolanic reactivity of natural pozzolans, ground glasses and coal bottom ashes and implication of their incorporation on the chloride permeability of concrete

Mahipal Kasaniya et al.

Summary: It is well known that partial replacement of portland cement with pozzolans improves the long-term performance of concrete. However, with the decreasing availability of fly ash, exploration of alternative pozzolans is necessary. Experimental investigations are conducted to study the performance of various pozzolans, traditional and novel, in terms of compressive strength and reactivity. The results show that the 7-day strength in the modified lime-reactivity test is a good indicator of pozzolanic reactivity and performance in concrete. Electrical resistivity is also discussed as an indicator of pozzolan performance in terms of strength development and chloride penetration resistance.
