Chitin/cellulose blend fibers prepared by wet anddry-wetspinning

Antje Ota et al.

Summary: This study describes the wet and dry-wet spinning of multifilament cellulosic composite fibers, particularly chitin/cellulose fibers, using an ionic liquid as a solvent. The addition of chitin was found to have significant effects on the properties of the composite fibers, which were investigated through microscopic, spectroscopic, and mechanical analyses. The environmentally friendly direct solution process represents an alternative technology to traditional viscose and lyocell processes.

Cellulose-lignin composite fibres as precursors for carbon fibres. Part 1-Manufacturing and properties of precursor fibres

Mikaela Trogen et al.

Summary: Cellulose-lignin composite fibres were successfully spun from ionic liquid solutions with lignin concentrations of up to 50%. Comparing beech and spruce lignin, the higher stability and carbon content of spruce lignin resulted in higher carbon fiber yield. These composite fibres show great potential as precursors for carbon fiber production.
