Endocrine-disruptive chemicals as contaminants of emerging concern in wastewater and surface water: A review

Teddy Kabeya Kasonga et al.

Summary: Population growth and industrial development have led to serious environmental pollution, with EDCs posing harmful effects on human, environmental, and wildlife health. Here, diseases caused by disrupting hormones and potential harm are highlighted. The use of fungal bioreactors as a low-cost, eco-effective wastewater treatment method is emphasized in the research.

Morphology and transport properties of membranes obtained by coagulation of cellulose solutions in isobutanol

Igor S. Makarov et al.

Summary: The study investigated the evolution of structural-morphological transformations of cellulose membranes prepared from solutions in N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide through different temperature isobutanol coagulation baths. It was found that the membranes exhibited a uniform monolithic microheterogeneous texture during coagulation and drying, with a porous structure formed when using isobutanol as the precipitation bath. Additionally, transverse tunnel cavities were formed in the membranes with an increase in precipitant temperature, collapsing to form a dense texture after washing with water.Mechanical properties of the membranes were determined and a correlation between values and structural-morphological and transport properties was proposed.

Protein repellent anti-coagulative mixed-charged cellulose derivative coatings

Matej Bracic et al.

Summary: This study involved the formation of cellulose-based polyelectrolyte charge complexes with anticoagulant properties on the surface of biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) thin films. The mixed charged bilayers showed a significant BSA repellent character and increased total plasma coagulation time compared to neat PCL. The cellulose derivative-based coatings have the potential to prevent unwanted BSA deposition and fibrin clot formation on PCL surfaces for biomedical applications.

The influence of various additives on coagulation process at different dosing point: From a perspective of structure properties

Yufei Li et al.

Summary: The structure properties of flocs have a significant impact on coagulation efficiency. The addition of ferric salt can facilitate the growth of Al flocs, while phosphate and citric acid have less significant effects. Citric acid has a more striking negative effect on the growth ability of the flocs compared to phosphate.

Flocculation of emulsified oily wastewater by using functional grafting modified chitosan: The effect of cationic and hydrophobic structure

Jiangya Ma et al.

Summary: The modified chitosan flocculants (MCS) synthesized in this study exhibited excellent oil removal efficiency in emulsified oily wastewater treatment over a wide pH range. The cationic and hydrophobic structure of MCS, as well as the use of specific monomers, were found to play key roles in enhancing the oil removal performance. The synthesized MCS showed promising potential for efficient treatment of emulsified oily wastewater.

Destabilization of stable bentonite colloidal suspension using choline chloride based deep eutectic solvent: Optimization study

Dana I. M. Al-Risheq et al.

Summary: Three ChCl-based natural deep eutectic solvents were synthesized and tested, with ChCl:LA showing slightly better efficiency at low dosage. Utilizing response surface methodology, the optimal coagulation conditions were determined to be 77 mM for ChCl:LA dosage and 3.48 g L-1 for the bentonite solid content.

Jute cellulose nanocrystal/poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide-co-3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane) hybrid hydrogels for removing methylene blue dye from aqueous solution

Shafiul Hossain et al.

Summary: A simple, efficient method was developed to prepare j-CNC reinforced pSiDm hydrogel for removing methylene blue dye from aqueous solution. The hydrogel showed significant swelling capacity and high adsorption value for MB, fitting well with a pseudo-second-order reaction model. The j-CNCs/pSiDm hydrogel is moderately resilient, completely biodegradable, and suitable for adsorbing cationic toxic materials from waste effluent.
