Chronic disease and medical spending of Chinese elderly in rural region

Summary: Chronic illness significantly affects medical expenses among rural elderly in China, particularly for rural, male, older, married, and higher educated groups, who spend more money on medical costs induced by chronic disease. Through examining trends in chronic disease prevalence and evaluating medical spending on chronic diseases, potential medical costs among rural elderly, especially vulnerable groups, can be prevented and controlled, helping to predict future healthcare needs.
