H2O2 priming promotes salt tolerance in maize by protecting chloroplasts ultrastructure and primary metabolites modulation

Gyedre dos Santos Araujo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of foliar H2O2 priming on physiological, biochemical, and ultrastructural traits related to photosynthesis of salt-stressed plants. Salinity drastically affected photosynthetic parameters and structural chloroplast integrity, and increased reactive oxygen species contents promoting disturbance in plant metabolism. H2O2-pretreated plants improved photosynthetic performance by preserving stacking thylakoids and modulating metabolites contributing to osmotic balance and reduced oxidative stress.
