Summary: Individuals with established cardiovascular disease or a high burden of cardiovascular risk factors may be particularly vulnerable to develop complications from COVID-19. Factors associated with in-hospital mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events in COVID-19 hospitalized patients include older age, previous ventricular arrhythmia, respiratory failure, altered mental status, and higher troponin T concentrations.

The characteristics of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with severe COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Yuki Hayashi et al.

Summary: This study found that severe COVID-19 patients often have abdominal pain as a characteristic symptom, while there was no significant difference in the incidence of diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting between severe and non-severe patients. This suggests that abdominal pain may be a distinctive feature of severe COVID-19 infections. Further studies involving COVID-19 patients from various countries and ethnicities are needed to confirm these findings.
