Automated Needle Targeting with X-ray (ANT-X)-Robot-assisted device for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) with its first successful use in human.

Mon Mon Oo et al.

Summary: The development of the ANT-X system facilitates the PCNL procedure by automatically aligning the puncture needle and reducing radiation exposure, allowing surgeons to perform the surgery more confidently. This system has the potential to reduce complications and encourage more surgeons to adopt this technique.

Study on Clinical Application of Different Ultrasound-Guided Planar Techniques in Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

Difu Fan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that ultrasound long- and short-axis planar technology can improve the success rate and shorten the puncture time in real-time guided puncture during minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy, with the short-axis out-of-plane technique being superior to the long-axis in-plane technique.

Deep-learning-aided forward optical coherence tomography endoscope for percutaneous nephrostomy guidance

Chen Wang et al.

Summary: Perfomring a percutaneous renal access is a critical step in many medical settings. In this study, a forward-view optical coherence tomography (OCT) endoscopic system was developed for percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) guidance. A deep-learning-based computer aided diagnosis platform was used to automatically classify the OCT images by the renal tissue types. Results showed that ResNet50-based CNN models achieved an average classification accuracy of 82.6% over 10 kidneys.

Air vs contrast pyelogram for initial puncture access in percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a randomized controlled trial

Prateek Gupta et al.

Summary: This study found that using air for PCNL procedures is more effective than contrast, with lower radiation exposure, shorter puncture duration, and shorter access time, as well as a higher success rate. The results suggest that air pyelogram is a feasible, safe, cost-effective, and efficient alternative to contrast pyelogram, and in challenging situations, a mixture of both is preferable to using one alone.
