Anti-Inflammatory, Antioxidant, and Wound-Healing Properties of Cyanobacteria from Thermal Mud of Balaruc-Les-Bains, France: A Multi-Approach Study

Summary: The thermal mud of Balaruc-les-Bains was found to be predominantly colonized by microorganisms, with cyanobacteria being the primary organism in the microbial biofilm observed on the mud surface. Nine cyanobacterial strains were isolated from the mud and their genomes sequenced, revealing pathways for various bioactive metabolites with therapeutic potential. These extracts showed anti-inflammatory effects without cytotoxicity on human cells, suggesting promising applications for drug development or thermal therapies.

Improved fucoxanthin and docosahexaenoic acid productivities of a sorted self-settling Tisochrysis lutea phenotype at pilot scale

Summary: This work aimed to select a Tisochrysis lutea phenotype with higher biomass and fucoxanthin productivities using fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS). A novel phenotype was obtained after two rounds of selection, resulting in significantly increased productivity of fucoxanthin and docosahexaenoic acid. The new phenotype showed high potential for industrial production with the highest reported outdoor productivities.
