Microbial community and function in nitrogen transformation of ectopic fermentation bed system for pig manure composting

Qianqian Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, agricultural wastes were composted in an ectopic fermentation bed system with continuous addition of nitrogen, resulting in decreased NH4+-N concentration and increased NO3--N concentration. Changes in the activities of protease, urease, and nitrate reductase were observed during the fermentation process. Metagenomic analysis showed that the composts had a predominance of COGs involved in nitrification and denitrification compared to ammonification. Microbial diversity and COGs played a key role in NH3 removal in the EFBS system.
