Do marmosets understand others' conversations? A thermography approach

R. K. Brugger et al.

Summary: Through thermography and behavioral preference measures, we investigated the mental processes of marmoset monkeys when exposed to positive or negative third-party vocal interactions. The results showed that marmosets perceive and process the vocal interactions holistically, preferring individuals engaged in positive, cooperative interactions during playbacks. This study suggests that marmosets eavesdrop on vocal exchanges and use the information to evaluate conspecifics' cooperative behavior.
