Summary: The findings of this study illustrate that consumers and family members in Australian mental health services believe that trauma-informed care requires mental health staff to have a greater understanding of trauma, provide opportunities for collaboration, establish trust and safety, offer diverse models of care, and ensure consistency and continuity of care.

What is needed for Trauma Informed Mental Health Services in Australia? Perspectives of clinicians and managers

Summary: This qualitative study explored the potential implementation of Trauma Informed Care into mental health services in Australia. Findings indicate that for services to be trauma-informed, managers require leadership, resources, training, staff support, resolution of wider systems issues, and clarification of the concept of TIC; while clinicians need to focus on staff well-being, support different ways of working, address workplace cultures, and provide increased resources.

A qualitative inquiry into psychiatrists' perspectives on the relationship of psychological trauma to mental illness and treatment: implications for trauma-informed care

Summary: This study explored psychiatrists' understandings and experiences of working with trauma and emerging models of Trauma-Informed Care. Findings revealed that psychiatrists are familiar with the concept of trauma but have different beliefs about its relationship to mental illness. Trauma-Informed Care is seen as an effort to humanize mental health services, but with perceived limited impact on psychiatrists' roles.
