Serum metabolic signatures of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a preliminary study

Jiaorong Su et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize serum metabolic signatures associated with carotid intima-media thickness (C-IMT) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The results showed that higher levels of deoxycholic acid (DCA) and taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA), and lower levels of taurocholic acid (TCA) were significantly associated with abnormal C-IMT. Serum bile acids may be potential biomarkers for subclinical atherosclerosis in T2DM patients.
