Numerical simulations of jets

Serguei Komissarov et al.

Summary: The development and key achievements of numerical simulations in astrophysics demonstrate their important role in dealing with complex phenomena, especially in studying astrophysical jets. Astrophysical jets involve multiple complex physical processes, and numerical simulations provide researchers with a powerful tool for understanding and solving these problems.

Flares in the Galactic Centre - I. Orbiting flux tubes in magnetically arrested black hole accretion discs

O. Porth et al.

Summary: Based on 3D general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations, this study examines a model for magnetic flux eruptions from the black hole magnetosphere. The results suggest that the erupted flux bundles can power infrared and X-ray flares, and the motion within the magnetically supported flow is significantly sub-Keplerian.

Pair Drizzle around Sub-Eddington Supermassive Black Holes

George N. Wong et al.

Summary: This passage discusses electron-positron pair creation near sub-Eddington accretion rate black holes and the possible dominant factors. The study shows that in M87, pair drizzle is sufficient to keep the magnetospheric charge density orders of magnitude above the Goldreich-Julian density, with pair production peaking along the jet-disk boundary.

Reconnection-driven Particle Acceleration in Relativistic Shear Flows

Lorenzo Sironi et al.

Summary: Investigating particle energization in shear flows, we found that Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities in their nonlinear stages generate kinetic-scale reconnection layers that efficiently energize jet particles, providing a first-principles mechanism for particle injection into shear-driven acceleration. Our work supports spine-sheath models of jet emission and explains the origin of radio-emitting electrons at the boundaries of relativistic jets.
