Reconstructing the formation history of top-shaped asteroids from the surface boulder distribution

Summary: The distribution of boulders on the surface of top-shaped asteroids such as Bennu or Ryugu tells us about the processes driving their evolution. A model shows that the spin-up induced by the Yarkovsky-O'Keefe-Radzievskii-Paddack (YORP) effect can explain simultaneously both the latitudinal behavior of the boulders and the regolith migration.

Summary: The origin of Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos, remains unclear. While capture has been questioned, in situ formation models have been proposed as alternatives. A hypothesis combining geophysical and tidal-evolution modeling suggests that Phobos and Deimos originated from disintegration of a common progenitor, with Phobos likely to impact Mars or be disrupted within around 39 million years.
