Quenched fractions in the IllustrisTNG simulations: the roles of AGN feedback, environment, and pre-processing

Martina Donnari et al.

Summary: The study using the IllustrisTNG hydrodynamical simulations demonstrates that the quenched fraction remains consistent for galaxies with mass greater than or similar to 10(10.5) M-circle dot across different environments and cosmic time, while low-mass galaxies mainly become quenched after becoming members of groups or clusters. In addition, low-mass satellite galaxies accreted more than approximately 4-6 billion years ago into massive hosts are predominantly passive, suggesting a limit on the time needed for environmental quenching.

Dynamical evidence for a morphology-dependent relation between the stellar and halo masses of galaxies

L. Posti et al.

Summary: By analyzing the near-infrared luminosities and globular cluster systems of early-type galaxies, a declining trend in the stellar-to-halo mass relation with mass, peaking at a specific point, has been observed. This result aligns with the standard relation derived for the general population of galaxies, but differs significantly from the relation for late-type galaxies. The differences between early-type and late-type galaxies can be attributed to the distinct formation processes of galactic discs and spheroids.

Compact Molecular Gas Distribution in Quasar Host Galaxies

Juan Molina et al.

Summary: Observations using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array show that low-redshift Palomar-Green quasars have host galaxies with unique distributions and kinematics of molecular gas, with high mass surface densities and significant kinematic complexity. These findings provide tantalizing clues about the physical conditions of the circumnuclear environments of actively accreting supermassive black holes.

Star Formation Histories of Massive Red Spiral Galaxies in the Local Universe

Shuang Zhou et al.

Summary: Our study explores the star formation histories of massive red spiral galaxies compared to blue spirals and red ellipticals. We find that both red spirals and red ellipticals experienced only one major star formation episode at early times and share similar flat profiles in various stellar population parameters. In contrast, blue spirals continuously form stars over a long timescale in their central regions and outer disks. Our results suggest that massive red spirals may have common processes of formation and quenching with massive red ellipticals, forming through a fast process at z > 2. Possible mechanisms for their formation and quenching are discussed.

Revisiting the Integrated Star Formation Law. II. Starbursts and the Combined Global Schmidt Law

Robert C. Kennicutt et al.

Summary: We found that the Schmidt law between starburst and nonstarburst galaxies can be fitted with a single power law with a slope of n = 1.5 +/- 0.05. However, fitting separate power laws for nonstarburst and starburst galaxies produces significantly different slopes, with a pronounced offset in the zero-point of the starburst relation towards higher SFR surface densities.

Exploring the hot gaseous halo around an extremely massive and relativistic jet launching spiral galaxy with XMM-Newton

M. S. Mirakhor et al.

Summary: In this study, a deep XMM-Newton observation of the spiral galaxy 2MASX J23453268-0449256 revealed the presence of diffuse X-ray emission from the hot gaseous halo, corresponding to 35% of the virial radius and constituting approximately 65% of the galaxy's total baryon mass content. The estimated energy densities of electrons and magnetic field in the radio lobes associated with the galaxy suggest an electron-dominated composition, with a factor of 10-200 depending on the lower cut-off energy of the electron spectrum.
