Tracers of the ionization fraction in dense and translucent gas: I. Automated exploitation of massive astrochemical model grids

Emeric Bron et al.

Summary: This study aimed to find the best observable tracers of the ionization fraction in the neutral interstellar medium based on a grid of astrochemical models, with the broader goal of developing a general automated method for identifying tracers of any unobservable quantity. By using model grids sampling a range of physical conditions, the study identified observable tracers with high predictive power for the ionization fraction in both translucent medium and cold dense medium conditions. The method presented is versatile and applicable to measuring other quantities of interest from various types of models.
