The Hubble Space Telescope UV Legacy Survey of Galactic Globular Clusters: XXII. Relative ages of multiple populations in five globular clusters

F. Lucertini et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new technique to estimate the relative ages of multiple stellar populations in five globular clusters. By creating color-magnitude and two-color diagrams of the clusters and identifying different populations within them, the study was able to accurately estimate the relative ages between the first generation and successive generations of stars. The results show that some clusters have coeval populations within specific time frames.

Gaia Early Data Release 3: Photometric content and validation

M. Riello et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the photometric content in Gaia Early Data Release 3 (Gaia EDR3), describing the input data, algorithms, processing, and validation of results. Significant improvements were made in the processing, particularly in the preprocessing and calibration of blue and red photometer data. The overall quality of calibrated mean photometry in Gaia EDR3 is superior to DR2 for all bands.

Spectroscopic Observations of Obscured Populations in the Inner Galaxy: 2MASS-GC02, Terzan 4, and the 200 km s-1 stellar peak*

Andrea Kunder et al.

Summary: The interpretation of stellar structures at low latitudes is hampered by dense gas and dust, limiting observations. This study focuses on chemical element abundances in low-latitude globular clusters 2MASS-GC02 and Terzan 4, revealing the presence of multiple populations in these metal-rich clusters. Despite re-determining the radial velocity of 2MASS-GC02, no clear evidence of a nuclear feature at negative longitudes is found, challenging current explanations for high-velocity stars in Galactic bulge fields.

UVES analysis of red giants in the bulge globular cluster NGC 6522

B. Barbuy et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the abundances of various elements in the NGC 6522 globular cluster and investigate the existence of first- and second-generation stars. The research identified correlations between Na-Al, Na-N, and Mg-Al, but did not find evidence of a Na-O anti-correlation in the data.

A New Identity Card for the Bulge Globular Cluster NGC 6440 from Resolved Star Counts*

Cristina Pallanca et al.

Summary: In this study, a new identity card for the Galactic Bulge cluster NGC 6440 is presented using a combination of high-resolution Hubble images, ground-based observations, and survey catalogs. The study found that the cluster is in a dynamically evolved stage with updated values for various parameters.

Accurate distances to Galactic globular clusters through a combination of Gaia EDR3, HST, and literature data

H. Baumgardt et al.

Summary: Accurate distances to Galactic globular clusters are derived by combining data from Gaia EDR3, HST, and literature. Different methods show good agreement in average distances at a level of about 2%, with distances to 162 clusters determined and about 20 with an accuracy of 1% or better. The implications of these distances for the local Hubble constant are discussed.

Gaia EDR3 view on galactic globular clusters

Eugene Vasiliev et al.

Summary: This study uses data from Gaia EDR3 to analyze the kinematic properties of Milky Way globular clusters, revealing various motion characteristics and highlighting the reliability and limitations of Gaia data. Despite some errors in parallax and PM measurements, the quality of Gaia astrometry has significantly improved in EDR3, providing valuable insights into star cluster properties.

Homogeneous analysis of globular clusters from the APOGEE survey with the BACCHUS code - III. ω Cen

Szabolcs Meszaros et al.

Summary: The study of omega Centauri reveals multiple populations with different effects of metallicity on the Al-Mg and N-C anticorrelations, and the Fe, Al, and Mg abundances can be divided into seven populations. In comparison to the Milky Way and other globular clusters, some element abundances in omega Centauri are significantly higher, and the presence of peculiar stars might indicate it as the remnant core of a dwarf galaxy. Moreover, the increase in the sum of CNO with metallicity and the opposite correlations of the [C/N] ratio in Al-poor and Al-rich stars are observed.

VVV CL001: Likely the Most Metal-poor Surviving Globular Cluster in the Inner Galaxy

Jose G. Fernandez-Trincado et al.

Summary: The study provides the first high-resolution abundance analysis of the globular cluster VVV CL001, suggesting that it may be one of the most metal-deficient clusters in the Galaxy. By applying statistical isochrone fitting, the estimated age of VVV CL001 is around 11.9 Gyr with a distance of approximately 8.22 kpc, indicating that it is an ancient globular cluster in the inner Galaxy. The chemical composition and dynamics support the hypothesis that VVV CL001 could be an ancient fossil relic left behind by a massive merger event during the early evolution of the Galaxy.
